Business/Information Technology Teacher
Come teach "at the Beach!" Colonial Beach Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates to serve as a High Business/Information Technology Teacher for Colonial Beach High School. Come join a dedicated faculty full of Drifter PRIDE in a small, family oriented community in Colonial Beach, VA.
TITLE: Business Education Teacher (FLSA Status-Exempt)
Under general supervision of a principal and/or other designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for high school students. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required; carries out a variety of student monitoring and controls activities; performs related duties as required or assigned.
Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more of the following subjects to secondary pupils: keyboarding, accounting, record keeping, office procedures, business law, business communication, basic business, consumer math. Utilizes course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs pupils in use, care, and safe operations of business equipment.
Instructs pupils in importance and significance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits in obtaining and retaining employment in business.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs.
Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
Assign and grade class work and homework.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required. Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.
Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
Perform related work as required.
Demonstrates a knowledge of curriculum and understands content and technology standards
Demonstrates mastery of personal and instructional use of technology
Models lessons and strategies Demonstrates responsibility for professional growth by seeking continuing education and in-service training programs
Demonstrates self-control in the interaction with the school community Demonstrates good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance
EDUCATION & LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university.
Must be eligible or possess a valid Teaching License from the State of Virginia with an endorsement in Business/Information Technology
The position entails significant walking, bending, standing, stooping, and possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment.
Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards
Work is performed throughout the division and requires no unusual demands
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of School Board Policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel
