Description:
Special Education Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

  • Instructs student utilizing evidence based methodologies and materials
  • Adapt and assist others in adapting material and developing instructional strategies
  • Consult and collaborate with staff, students, parents and community regarding hearing disabilities and interventions.
  • Monitor student’s academic, social and behavioral growth.
  • Obtain necessary equipment, materials and services for student’s placement in the least restrictive environment
  • Collaborate with special education tem to determine appropriate placement for students
  •  Use diagnostic skills; writing, organizational and scheduling skills to keep records and to complete required paperwork to meet state and federal mandates
  • Administer and interpret formal, informal and curriculum based assessments to determine needs and services for students
  • Provide information/training to general education staff regarding communication and educational needs of students as well ad deaf culture awareness
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Summary:
As a collaborative member of the Special Education team, the Teacher of the Deaf will be responsible for teaching/evaluating and implementing programming for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.  The teacher will be able to implement services along the full spectrum of inclusionary practices
 
Qualifications:
Must have or be eligible for Colorado Teaching License with one of the below endorsements:
  • Aurally Handicapped
  • Hearing Handicapped
  • Severe Needs Hearing
  • Special Ed Specialist:  Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Working Conditions:
188 days/year
