Under direction, to plan, organize, and provide diagnostic services and therapy for children with speech, hearing, and language disabilities; to demonstrate, teach, and instruct pupils in language and speech development processes; to perform diagnostic assessment in determining speech and language performance levels; to aid in the development of academic, social, behavioral, and other educational skill areas; and to do other related functions as required.
This position classification requires subject matter expertise speech and language assessment and development. Responsible and directly related assessment and language development experience is required to perform problem analysis and arriving at alternative solutions to speech and language problems, issues and concerns. The position classification performs decision analysis continually, and makes judgments and decisions of considerable consequence. The functional role of this position classification requires the application of a variety assessment protocols, and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies pertaining student educational and speech and language development programming. The incumbents meets frequently with school administrators, teachers, other educational staff and parents to communicate information, data, and alternative problem solutions.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Successful completion supervised clinical experience.
Possession of an earned Masters degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in related field.
Possession of a licensure from the Colorado Department of Education authorizing Special Services.
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This type of work involves prolonged sitting, walking, and/or standing.
Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information,
the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
CBI/FBI background clearance and a clean driving record.
Office environment; exposure to computer screens, use of computer keyboard
Must be able to travel from site to site.
