ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
 

REPORTS TO:  Principal – Elementary School
DEPARTMENT NAME:   Leadership and Learning

JOB SUMMARY:  Assist in planning, directing, or coordinating the academic, administrative, or auxiliary activities of assigned public elementary level school.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:  List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by this position.  Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Job Responsibility 1: Assists with supervision of staff, including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination.
Job Responsibility 2: Provides leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs. Assists with scheduling classes and extra-curricular activities for students; coordinates safety inspections and safety drill activities. Supports the development and implementation of rigor, relevance, and relationships in academy themes and pathways.
Job Responsibility 3: Implements policies approved by the Board of Education; enforces policies and procedures for student discipline, and protects students’ rights.
Job Responsibility 4: Assists with development, preparation, and administration of approved school budget; monitors and approves expenditures; supervises financial operations of the school.
Job Responsibility 5: Coordinates requisitioning of supplies and equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records, and checks receipts/invoices for materials.
Job Responsibility 6: Supervises compilation of student data, including report cards, transcripts, and schedules; supervises reporting and monitoring of student attendance. Maintains record system for area of responsibility; processes paperwork including, reports, memos, requisitions, and personnel information. Gathers and maintains information/data to support periodic and special reports documenting activities for area (or Academy) of responsibility.
Job Responsibility 7: Establishes and maintains positive public relations with staff members, students, parents, and community. Attends or conducts staff, parent, PTA, and other professional meetings to exchange information; attends professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills.
Job Responsibility 8: Provides leadership, facilitate, and/or actively participate in the appropriate professional learning communities at the school. Participates in team meetings and ensure team effectiveness.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: “Education Requirements” refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
 
Requires a master’s degree in Elementary Education, Educational Administration, or a closely related field.
 
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: “Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations” refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.

 Applicant must hold or be eligible to apply for one of the following TN Administrator licenses: BAL Pk-12-A (480); BAL Pk-12-B (481); PAL Pk-12 (482); PAL Pk-12 (483); ILL-B Pk-12 (442); ILL-P Pk-12 (443); or ILL-E Pk-12 (444)
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: “Experience Requirements” refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
 
Requires six years of applicable experience.
