200 Day Salary Scale

Pay Grade: Per Instructional Salary Scale Period of Employment: 10 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Administrator and Supervisor of Special Education

General Responsibilities Responsible for creating a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an alternative education setting. Teacher will utilize various behavioral strategies and alternative programs.

Essential Duties:

Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors, and related service providers in the over-all educational plan for students enrolled in the alternative education setting. Assists in the development and implementation of an individual education service and transition plan for students enrolled in the alternative education setting. Prepares lesson plans to correlate with student needs. Instructs students in a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepared students to master grade level standards. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Manassas City Public Schools. Collaborates with the teacher of record to develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course/SOL standards. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to engage the students. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors. Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress. Supervises and monitors student movement and escorts students to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, and other activities in the school. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the education of students with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare comprehensive narrative and data reports. Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders. Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, intervention techniques and behavior management.
