Description

We are thrilled that you are interested in applying to work Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning. Teachers who apply at this school can look forward to an active learning and teaching environment. Students will participate in term-long expeditions through which the core is taught. Classes are arranged in crews. First and second grades are taught together, third and fourth grades are together, etc. Teachers can expect to participate in the development of the expeditions they will be experiencing with their students. Teachers can also expect to spend time outside the classroom, doing fieldwork, and working with students. The art teacher will have the unique experience of teaching all of the students at the school. They will develop lessons and projects that correlate and support the expedition studies the students are doing in their classrooms.

Any teacher considering employment at Promontory School of Expeditionary learning should familiarize him/herself with our charter found on our website at promontoryschool.org.

At Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning, the arts are integral to the curriculum. While art may be a separate study in some respects, in an Expeditionary Learning School the arts are integral to every expedition in every classroom. As such, an art teacher at our school is responsible for helping students and teachers as they strive to incorporate art into a meaningful study of the world around them. The art teacher will be responsible for helping teachers in each classroom understand the principles necessary to help their students produce excellent work in their expeditions.

The art teacher assistant will work with the current art teacher at our school by collaborating and teaching some of the art classes while she performs other duties at the school. Most of the work will be in the afternoons with the younger students in grades K-4. Experience with art in many modalities is preferred. A teaching license is also preferred, but not necessary for this position.
