Broad Scope of Position:

To assist each student in developing an individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) that outlines the specific course progression he/she needs to successfully achieve both educational and career goals. To guide students towards their chosen career through high school graduation, college graduation and/or a technical degree. To mentor students and to provide social and emotional support as needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Meets with each student and family to develop and review information regarding academic progress, personal strengths and career planning. • Supports College and Career department goals • ICAP implementation • Provide individual planning sessions to students in the areas of academic planning and success, career awareness and social/emotional development in accordance with planned objectives for grade level. • Systematically develop and evaluate planning for high school and post high school on an annual basis through individual planning which results in a written career/educational plan for each student (Student Success Plan/ICAP). • Demonstrate personal growth and professional development. • Track student vouchers and fees associated with both college prep and college credits taken. • Coordinates registration for college preparatory, Bridge and Select courses, including both high school and collegiate level courses. This includes ensuring that concurrent agreement paperwork has been completed. • Collaborates with collegiate partners, teachers and administration to ensure appropriate student placement, using the Accuplacer Test as one tool. • Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting. • Works closely with college partners, maintaining up to date information with program requirements, prerequisites, degree plans and policies and procedures that support successful student progression. • Assist in the transition from high school to post-secondary high school options. • Interpret tests, student data, and other assessment results appropriately in the advising environment. • Inform students and their parents as to pertinent test results and their implications for educational and career planning. • Participate in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school. • Uses Infinite Campus to develop student schedules, maintains accurate student records, notes and communication. Keeps student files current. • Pursue continuous professional growth to stay abreast of the field. • Monitor and advise students and their parents as to progress toward promotion/graduation. • Advocate for equal access to programs and services for all students. • Plan and coordinate programs such as career and college fairs, scholarships, and other extensions of the counseling curriculum. • Arranges individual advising events to enable students to be inspired and to take ownership of their educational goals and providing the tools to do so. • Partners with Learning Specialist to ensure students are appropriately placed and supported to successfully meet educational goals. • Participates in the RtI process in regards to positive behavioral support, assessing needs and providing counsel. • Partners with the School Counselor and Educational Support Staff to ensure students social, emotional, and health needs are met. • Oversees the registration for the PSAT and ACT. • Establish a planning calendar for activities. • Completes assigned tasks and projects assigned by supervisor.
