**Work From Home**

The Utah Virtual Academy and K¹² give Utah kids in grades K-12 the chance to learn in the ways that are right for them. We are hiring a full-time EL Coordinator/EL Teacher/504 Coordinator for grades K-12. UTVA offers: • The award-winning K¹² curriculum • Full-time, tuition-free online public school option • An active, supportive school community • A range of extracurricular activities • A robust Advanced Learner Program • Books, materials, and loaner computer system (grades K-6) • The only statewide virtual public charter school in the state to offer the complete K¹² experience • Students graduate with a high school diploma that meets all state requirements.

EL specific duties: • Teaching live (in an online classroom) English Language Learner (EL) classes to groups of students with similar EL goals to help increase English language proficiency. There may be no more than 6 students in a single group. • Scheduling live EL classes for students through class connects (most students work on services in like-skilled groups) • Completing EL paperwork, including goal plans, for a caseload of students. Caseload is between 20-30 students grades K-12. • Conducting EL goal meetings virtually via a conference call and Blackboard Connect. • Attending conferences and continuous training in the area of EL. • Posting student accommodations for general ed teachers to access and coordinating with general education teachers to make sure individual accommodations are met for EL students. • Giving online WIDA screener as needed to students who are new to the program or do not have current WIDA scores from a previous year. • Assist the Special Programs Manager and the Testing Manager to set students up in online WIDA testing, and prepare for live onsite WIDA testing, including loading computers with software, prepping testing rooms, etc.

Planning and Preparation: • Prepare lessons appropriate for the goals of the EL students on the teacher’s caseload. • Understand overall diversity of assigned families and individual characteristics of students/parents; specifically, how this impacts support needed. • Utilizes asynchronous and synchronous tools to augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures.

Instruction and Student Achievement: • Orients students to course and communicates course requirements. • Maintains regular office hours and conducts instructional sessions. • Maintains office hours • Sets and enforces deadlines for student work. • Support parents with student curricular and instructional issues. • Responsible for student academic progress and attendance • Balance flexibility of the K12 curriculum with Academy policies and procedures. • Conduct conferences with students and parents/responsible adult. • Individualize instruction to help each student achieve K12 curricular objectives. • Grades student work and maintains grade book. • Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student’s achievement. • Alert administrators to any concerns about student performance and progress. • Recommends promotion and retention. • Maintains regular contact with students and families

Virtual Classroom Environment: • Create and manage home office. • Establish and maintain a positive rapport with assigned families. • Support students with set-up and maintenance of their teaching environment. • Support students through basic computer troubleshooting.

Professional Responsibilities • Collaborates with peers. • Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletter and events. • Travel to and participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions. • Travels to and participates in monthly outings and marketing events (special education teachers cannot be lead on an event that is not for special education students only). • State testing proctor assignments (working with special education students)

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Required Qualifications (in order of preference)

• Bachelor’s degree in Education • Utah Teacher Certification

Other Skills & Abilities • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Knowledge and proficiency in UTVA/K12 platforms and systems • Strong collaboration and problem-solving abilities • High degree of reliability
