Essential Duties This employee designs and implements instruction for students with disabilities in Henrico County Schools. The incumbent is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating individual educational programs for students based on individual student needs and the goals and objectives of the Henrico County School Board and administration.

Collaborate with Central Office Exceptional Education staff to identify students appropriate to the entrance and subsequent exit of students for the BLISS program; Case manage students involved in the BLISS program; Implement Personal Development curriculum specific to student needs including coping strategies, self-regulation, coping-strategies, anger/frustration management, self-monitoring, decision-making, etc. with high fidelity; including the application of MANDT principles to respond to and de-escalate student behavior during critical incidents; Build and implement a program level behavioral support system for students in the BLISS program to include incorporation of Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) as well as oversight and implementation of Individual Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); Collaborate with school staff to build effective inclusive programming and practices for students with significant behavioral concerns; Coach and model effective classroom management strategies for general and special education classrooms; Regulate schedule to include student monitoring, direct instruction, and teacher support to encompass the collection, analysis, and instructional decision making based on data collected; Facilitate regular staffings, outside the IEP process, to monitor student progress; Oversee management, supervision and provision of support for Instructional Assistant staff that are assigned to the BLISS program along with collaborating with other stake-holders to integrate BLISS students into the comprehensive school community and provide opportunities for positive and productive school interactions; Communicate effectively with parents and stakeholders regarding students' progress; collaborate with other teachers/staff to increase communication and monitor progress Develop and implement a plan to increase parent involvement for students in the BLISS program; Develop and implement structures to maximize the effectiveness of the BLISS Program and measure and report outcomes relative to student outcomes. Function as a member of the Social Emotional Support Services (SESS) team. Other duties as assigned. Requirements of a Department Chairperson: a positive philosophy of education and an understanding of the psychology of learning, understand the subject matter and keep aware of instructional and curricular innovations in education, especially in the area of specialization, exhibit skills in leadership and in good human relations, and demonstrates planning, training, and organizational abilities.

Private day case management (majority) Private day educational testing and observation (majority) Oversight of department compliance Support to case managers with IEP development, eligibility, FBA/BIP and MDR process (often reviews drafts of documents, based on case manager need) Compiling information related to course requests and master scheduling IEP meeting attendance and support with advocate or legal involvement Meetings with coordinator/specialist/sped admin Support with new enrollments; interpretation of IEPs received from transfer students Instructional Assistant scheduling and management, coordinator of coverage Direct support for case management processes; attend meetings with new teachers Instructional support for first year teachers, link to resources, strategies, etc. Navigate and support escalating situations with parents Building level expert on procedural guidance- timelines, credit accommodations, liaison to Central Office staff Manages special transportation Liaison to school counselors Liaison to related services providers- procures, space, etc. Support staff for IEP management software Collaborates with CAR for testing accommodations, schedules, groups/ group size Other department chair duties as assigned to all chairs in building across contents (e.g. leadership meeting attendance, management of sub plans, etc.)
