Inclusion Support Mentor, Head Start to Success Location: Itinerant in Clackamas County, based out of our Sunnybrook Office, 13455 SE 97th Ave, Clackamas, OR 97015 Schedule: 7.5 hours per day / 5 days per week / Instructional School Year Calendar*

*TEMPORARY position through the 2026-27 school year, with a projected end date of June 11, 2027. Extension for the 2027-28 school year is subject to funding. About the program: Our Head Start to Success and Preschool Promise programs provide free comprehensive preschool to children who are experiencing poverty. Head Start to Success offers a comprehensive range of services for children from birth to age five, including early education, health care, nutrition, and family support. Head Start places an additional emphasis on supporting the whole child and their family. We work in partnership with the Canby, North Clackamas and Oregon Trail school districts and have classrooms at the Clackamas Early Learning Center to provide preschool services for children and families throughout Clackamas County.

About this position:  The Inclusion Support Mentor collaborates with classroom staff, family visitors, PreK Wraparound team and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) partners to support meaningful participation, engagement, and belonging for all children within daily classroom routines and activities. This position supports implementation of established program practices and individualized supports related to high quality inclusive classroom practices. This position provides in-class services for students who may benefit from additional or focused support, working collaboratively with the PreK Wraparound and classroom teams to implement classroom wide and child specific plans.

Essential functions: 

  • Works alongside classroom teaching teams to support implementation of inclusive, relationship-based, and developmentally appropriate classroom practices.
  • Supports the implementation of established classroom strategies, routines, environmental supports, and use of materials that promote engagement, participation, belonging, and access for all children [in consultation with PreK Wraparound Team and ECSE Specialists.
  • Supports classroom teams in strengthening inclusive learning environments that foster social-emotional development, peer relationships, self-regulation, and meaningful participation in daily routines and activities.
  • Collaborates with teaching staff, family visitors, PreK Wraparound team, and ECSE to support implementation of accommodations, inclusive classroom practices, and individualized supports within naturally occurring classroom activities and routines.
  • Provides embedded classroom support through modeling, observations, collaborative reflection, and problem-solving with Lead Teachers and classroom teams.
  • Supports implementation of program-wide inclusion practices, including Pyramid Model and trauma-informed practices.
  • Participates as directed in collaborative meetings with classroom staff, family visitors, PreK Wraparound team, and ECSE to support coordinated and inclusive services for children.
  • Assists staff in following established program procedures related to data collection, required record keeping and inclusive classroom practices.
  • Supports safe, predictable, and responsive classroom environments using program-approved behavior support and de- escalation practices.
  • Maintains documentation and communication related to assigned responsibilities in program data systems and internal records.
  • May provide temporary classroom support to help with individual children or classroom needs during urgent staffing needs.
  • Substitutes in classrooms to maintain ratio or in the case of urgent staffing needs.

 

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree, or a Step 10 or higher on the Oregon Registry, with 2 years of experience working directly with children and families; or at least 30 quarter/20 semester college credits in Special Education, Child Development, or Early Childhood Education with 5 years of experience working directly with children and families.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and general principles of early childhood education and developmentally appropriate, child-led, multi-cultural, anti-bias curriculum for ages 0-5 years.
  • Ability to model positive and appropriate interactions with children and other adults, work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures, and communicate effectively with those whose English language skills are limited.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information, assume a high degree of responsibility and appropriately assess and handle crises and solve problems, as needed.
  • Ability to enroll in the Oregon Child Care Division Central Background Registry (CBR) before your start date and must be able to maintain current enrollment at all times of employment.
  • Ability to, within 30 days of employment, acquire and maintain valid first aid and CPR certification.

 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • Bilingual. Bilingual candidates must pass a language proficiency assessment at an intermediate high to advanced level per CESD guidelines to be eligible for bilingual salary placement.

 

Salary: Range 22-23* of the Classified Salary Schedule. New hires are eligible to start at up to Step 4 depending on experience, per the Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting salary between $34.28 - $39.28 per hour, depending on experience.

*Range 23 is for bilingual candidates who pass a language proficiency assessment at an intermediate high to advanced level in any of the major languages of our service communities (Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and American Sign Language)

Retirement plan contributions: Clackamas ESD employees working 600 or more hours in a calendar year are eligible for the Oregon Public Employee Retirement, or PERS. There are two components to PERS, including the pension, which is primarily funded by CESD and The Individual Account Program, or IAP, which is funded by a six-percent deduction from your paycheck. If you are new to PERS, your PERS deduction will begin automatically after a six-month waiting period.
