Position Description

Position Title: Maintenance Technician Department: Buildings & Grounds Reports To: Director of Operations

 

 

 

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician serves in a hands-on role working on proactive and reactive projects, keeping the district's plumbing and mechanical systems operating at an efficient level. This position works collaboratively with the Director to ensure that all district buildings and physical assets are maintained in a state of operational excellence.  The goal is to provide clean, safe, and comfortable environments that support high-quality teaching and learning.  District 95 is a wonderful place to work with supportive and committed stakeholders.

 


 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional technical certifications or trade school training preferred.

     

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance or facilities operations.

     

  • Valid Illinois Driver's License.

     

  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in multiple disciplines: Some combination of the following: Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry, Electrical, and related work is preferred. 

     

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with staff and community.

     

  • Ability to work daily from 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM and emergency on-call as needed.

     

 


 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems and equipment.

     

  • Safely operate hand and power tools and related equipment.

     

  • Preventative & reactive maintenance (Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry, Electrical).

     

  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies; order as needed.

     

  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and alarms.

     

  • Travel between district buildings.

     

  • Assist with facility setup for school and community events.

     

  • Maintain a positive, flexible attitude in a fast-paced environment.

     

  • Utilize technology for work orders, email, scheduling, and reporting.

     

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.

     

 


 

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands for fine motor tasks, reach with arms, talk, and hear.

     

  • Frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 90 lbs.

     

  • Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., steam tunnels, attics) and at heights using ladders or lifts.

     

  • Visual requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

     

 


 

Work Environment

  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

     

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals (e.g., cleaning agents, boiler treatment), and moderate noise levels.

     

  • Must meet deadlines under time constraints and respond to emergencies.

     

 


 

Employment Requirements

  • Successful completion of a fingerprint-based criminal background check and employment eligibility verification (per Illinois School Code).

     

  • Compliance with all district policies, including those related to drug/alcohol-free workplace, ethics, and safety.

     

  • Position is considered a mandated reporter under the Illinois Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.

     

 


 

Salary / Benefits / Compensation

  • Salary and benefits are outlined in the CBA, which can be found on the district website.  Salary is based on experience in similar roles.  Starting salary is between $53,000 - $60,000.
