Holland Public Schools, located in Holland Michigan. PRIMARY JOB GOAL:   Certified Secondary Teacher/Special Education to support students that are expelled or suspended with work completion. To support our students that have Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) Services or Homebound Services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Familiarity with online learning platform.
  2. Ability to build authentic relationships with students.
  3. Willingness to travel within Holland City School District  including  to student homes for Homebound Services.
  4. Extensive experience with diverse populations.
  5. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records and grading.
  6. Administers standardized tests in accordance with District and State assessments.
  7. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Associate Superintendents of School Improvement and Student Services.
  8. Coordinate with staff to monitor, collect lessons, grade and provide services for students who are not in the traditional school setting due to medical needs or suspension
  9. Monitor and communicate students who need services or are returning to school
  10. Coordinate with Student Services and School Improvement teams bi-weekly
  11. Provide credit counseling for long-term suspended students served through ESCAPE Ministries.
  12. Develop individualized credit-recovery plans to support academic progress.
  13. Offer ongoing academic mentoring to help students stay engaged and on track.
  14. Guide students in goal-setting to promote readiness for graduation and access to a well-rounded education.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Based on student need, travel within the District, County, and elsewhere may be needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.
  2. Knowledge and scope of elementary and secondary curriculum.
  3. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  4. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  5. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  6. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  7. Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  8. Plan or coordinate lessons and grade materials.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  10. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  12. Ability to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following:   The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  1. Valid, current Michigan teaching certification, special education preferred
  2. Ability to teach all subjects with a strong background in differentiation and behavior management.
  3. Ability to work well with students, staff and parents.
  4. Ability to demonstrate mature judgment and moral ethical behavior
  5. Must display regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  6. Must meet the requirements of School Safety Legislation- Complete FBI fingerprints required.
  7. Valid Michigan Driver's License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a typical school setting, use standard office equipment, read printed materials and a computer screen, and communicate in person or over the telephone.  Candidates must have a valid driver's license to travel between district buildings.
