Doctors Charter School (DCS) of Miami Shores is a college preparatory, municipally-sponsored, public charter middle and high school that serves Miami Shores residents and residents of adjacent communities. The school began operations on August 8, 2005.
Doctors Charter School is widely recognized for offering relevant and rigorous academic programs in a safe and personal setting. Technology and diverse extracurricular activities attract quality students, resulting in exceptionally high college acceptance rates. DCS provides public school students with a top private school experience.
Doctors Charter School is built on a partnership among Barry University, the Village of Miami Shores, the North Dade Medical Foundation, and the parents of the school. The residents of the Village of Miami Shores issued a bond to build the school’s facilities and the North Dade Medical Foundation provided funding for the construction of the building and for the continued support of the academic program at the school.
The DCS building houses 22 classrooms, four science labs, an Art Lab, a Music Lab, a media center, a cafeteria/auditorium and technology labs. Wireless technology is used throughout the school and students have access to laptops, their own tablet devices, and computer labs to be used for instructional purposes. The science labs are state of the art and are in the process of being equipped with the latest equipment to prepare students for science careers.
The name of the school honors the North Dade Medical Foundation's financial contribution for the construction of the school building and for the educational program. The school’s identity is academic excellence and its logo symbolizes learning and study. The words that appear in our logo are Perceptum, “to learn” and Affero, “to contribute”. They represent the essence of the school where learning is the main focus and where our graduates are academically well-prepared, responsible citizens.
The symbol of the “Caduceus” signifies ties with and the continued support from the medical community that sponsors Doctors Charter School. Vision: Inspiring students towards Discovery, Citizenship, and Scholarship.
