Job Description SUMMARY: Provides instruction in the curricular area to students in 6th-8th in a magnet school setting.
Must be willing to work extra contractual days in the summer in preparation for the transition to magnet (up to 20)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties must be performed on site. Other duties or tasks may be assigned. Teach English Language Learners from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds Assess both academic and language proficiency levels Differentiate instruction in consideration of cultural backgrounds, proficiency levels, and learning styles Support classroom teachers with appropriate accommodations and strategies to assist the learning of English Learners Actively promote and develop opportunities for interaction and integration of ELL and mainstream students Serve as an advocate for the ELL program, students, and families Attend and participate in District ELL Professional Learning Community Attend and participate in Professional Learning Community Assist ELL Facilitator in providing professional development for staff Collaborate with District Community Liaisons to support students and families struggling with language barriers Assists and collaborates with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents and students on matters pertaining to reading instruction Maintains appropriate records and protects the confidentiality of data Meets the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis Student supervision required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Education required. ESL Endorsement Required Experience is teaching 6-8 English Learners Cultural sensitivity for students from over 20 different countries Knowledge and experience with Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Experience in classroom teaching in K=5 grade preferred. In addition, the specific skills/educational qualifications for this include: ESL Teacher K-12
