SUMMARY
Looking for a dynamic candidate to fill position. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, understands how they learn, and is dedicated to creating a nurturing learning atmosphere for every student.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administers, scores, and records such as achievement and/or diagnostic tests as the teachers recommend for individual students;
  • Working with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teachers or in consultation with the teachers;
  • Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interest, and abilities;
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work in consultation with the teachers;
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teachers;
  • Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling;
  • Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher;
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student;
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers;
  • Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned;
  • Escorts children to and from rooms and playground;
  • Supervises loading and unloading of buses, lunchroom and recess
  • Bus duty in the morning and afternoon;
  • Lunch duty
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a Paraprofessional license from Illinois State Board of Education;
  • A sincere interest in, positive attitude toward, and enthusiasm for working with middle school students;
  • Ability to empathize with children and to remain composed and patient with difficult behavior;
  • Ability to follow directions and carry out assigned tasks independently and in a organized manner;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Commitment to high professional standards, ethics, and ability to maintain student confidentiality
