Substitute Non-Teacher Job Description

Job Title:            Substitute Non-Teacher                                      Exemption Status/Test: Exempt from Overtime

Reports to:          Campus/District Supervisor Assigned               Pay Grade: See Substitute Pay Scales (Handbook)

Dept./School:      Campus/District Position Assigned                    Date Revised: January 2017

Summary: Supervise and/or perform duties commensurate with position assigned and/or other duties assigned.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • High School diploma or GED (preferred)

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree and appropriate certification for position assigned (as required).

  • Highly Qualified/Highly Effective required if position assigned  requires HQ/HE personnel.

Special Knowledge/Skills:.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to be patient, flexible, and versatile.

  • Basic technology competencies.

  • Model good moral standards.

  • Knowledge and skills of a particular position for assignment


  • Experience working with children and young adults preferred.

  • Experience in particular position assigned

Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report to the administrator or supervisor upon arrival.

  • Assume responsibility for overseeing and completing duties as assigned.

  • Manages student interactions/behavior in accordance with Natalia ISD Employee Handbook and campus/district expectations.

  • Take all necessary/reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Complete/turn in all required paperwork to assigned administrator or supervisor.

  • Perform all extra duties as required by assigned administrator or supervisor.

  • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

  • Establish and maintain professional communication with students and district personnel; ensure that all interactions are respectful.

  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, as well as  verbal and written directives.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • As assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Frequent standing, stooping, binding, pulling, and pushing as required by position assigned.

  • Frequent moving of small/medium items as required, media equipment and other classroom or office equipment.

Equipment Used:

  • Copier, district assigned computer, iPad, audiovisual and other equipment as assigned by position.

  • Some special program placements may require specific equipment use for a specific student/adult need.
