The instructional media specialist is the member of the educational team who has the primary responsibility of helping students to maximize their potential through the utilization of print and non-print informational sources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
A. Instructional/Curricular Management
1. Conducts orientation and provides instruction in the use of the media center for students and staff.
2. Maintains a working knowledge of the school curriculum and selects materials that are an integral part of that curriculum.
B. Professional and Personal Attitudes and Characteristics
3. Encourages and motivates pupils toward appropriate levels of success, responsibility and independence.
4. Complies with administrative policies within the department, school and district.
5. Shows evidence of professional growth.
6. Communicates effectively.
7. Is receptive to new educational approaches, technological progress and various points of view.
8. Maintains professional behavior.
9. Shows respect, concern and warmth for children and adults.
C. Administrative and Technical Performance
Promotes the use of the media center program, collection and services.
Supervises or executes the tasks of processing, organizing, circulating and purchasing materials.
May directly supervise employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and negotiated agreements. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.

Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping. Ability to use other advanced technology, software applications and trouble shoot problems as they arise.
