Sunset Ridge School District 29, a K-8 district located in Northfield Illinois, is seeking qualified applicants for a school psychologist intern for the 2020-2021 school year. Qualified applicants must be enrolled in an approved Ed.S. or Ph.D program of study and have training in assessment, consultation, problem solving, counseling, progress monitoring, classroom management, social-emotional learning, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This position offers a competitive stipend.
An internship at District 29 would provide experience in collaborative problem solving within a multi-tiered service delivery model for both academic and social emotional needs. The intern would assist in collecting data within a Review Interview Observe Test (RIOT) framework and would work under supervision to prepare and analyze progress-monitoring data before problem solving meetings. A wide range of assessment experiences would be available including curriculum-based measurement (CBM) and curriculum-based evaluation (CBE) as well as conducting initial and re-evaluations for Special Education. The intern would also have the opportunity to participate in the implementation of universal and targeted academic (e.g., Corrective Reading, Read to Acheive, SQ Write) and social/emotional/behavioral programs (e.g. Second Step, CHAMPS, Check and Connect). Mental health counseling experience will also be provided (e.g., leading social skills groups, providing direct service to students with social and emotional challenges, creating and monitoring behavior support plans). For the 2020-2021 school year the district will be focusing on extending our programming to provide a larger continuum of services to students exhibiting challenging behaviors. This allows the intern to be involved in a systems-level change to increase the provision of evidence-based strategies for managing the most serious behaviors to increase our multi-tier system of supports.
