Job Posting: National Honor Society (NHS) Advisor
Location: Cooperstown High School
Reports To: Director of Physical Education, Athletics & Extracurricular Activities- Josh Wagner
Overview:
Cooperstown High School is seeking a committed and organized National Honor Society (NHS) Advisor to lead and support our local chapter of NHS, the nation’s premier organization for recognizing high-achieving high school students. The advisor plays a key leadership role in promoting scholarship, service, leadership, and character among students in grades 11 and 12, while organizing events and service opportunities that enrich the school and broader community.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and lead monthly NHS meetings with student members to plan and implement community service projects.
Oversee annual projects such as:
Kindness Kits initiative
Valentine’s Day Carnation Distribution to all students
Annual NHS Dinner
Fall and Spring Induction Ceremonies
Organize and manage the candidate selection process, including application collection, interview coordination with administration, and communication with candidates.
Guide NHS members in maintaining the standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
Serve as liaison between NHS student leadership, faculty, administration, and the community.
Maintain accurate records of service hours, member participation, and chapter activities.
Ensure compliance with national NHS guidelines and uphold the mission and vision of the Cooperstown NHS chapter.
Qualifications:
Required:
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire students.
Experience coordinating events, programs, or service initiatives.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong sense of integrity and commitment to upholding NHS standards.
Preferred:
Previous experience advising student organizations or honor societies.
Knowledge of National Honor Society procedures and expectations.
Experience working with school administration on student recognition and event planning.
Background in leadership development or service-learning programs.
