JOB EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Position Purpose / Description

 

The Electrician reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance and installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, lighting, and power equipment within school facilities to ensure a safe, compliant, and functional learning environment.

 Major responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting circuit issues, repairing electrical machinery, reading technical electrical diagrams, and ensuring adherence to safety regulations and codes.
  • Replacing interior and exterior Light fixtures, outlets, etc.
  • Installing new outlets, light fixtures, power lines and panels using electrical power previously broughtinto the institution by the power company.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Supervisor of Maintenance.

 

 

Additional Duties

 

  • District Snow Plowing
  • Assistance with District maintenance work orders as needed.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC systems, low voltage controls, and safety practices (OSHA)
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics, and usea variety of specialized tools and measuring devices common to the trade, including hot line equipment, voltmeter/ multimeter and circuit tracer.
  • Must work independently and very carefully in order to protect equipment and avoid mishandlingbecause of dangerous electrical current involved.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to handle, high voltage electricity.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills of electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge and ability of basic conduit bending.
  • Journeyman Level certification preferred.

 

Preferred Experience

 

  • Previous experience in commercial or institutional electrical maintenance.
  • Previous experience working in a school maintenance or educational facility.
  • Previous experience working with minor or major electrical tasks.
