Position: Night Custodian (Full-time, 12 month) 

School/Department: TBD (Split buildings)

Rate: Starting at $25.63 (plus shift differential); eligible for benefits 

Position Description: RSD13 is seeking a full-time night/second shift custodian.  Hours are 2:00pm-10:00pm and position requires travel between 2 schools. 

Qualifications: High School Diploma; Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable 

Performance Expectations/Responsibilities: Depending on shift assignment and allocation of duties within building, some or all of the following may be considered responsibilities of the custodian: 
1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.  2. Shovels, plows, and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate. 3. Cleans classroom floors and boards daily 4. Cleans offices daily 5. Dusts classrooms as needed. 6. Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it. 7. Scrubs and disinfects bathrooms daily, and cleans all fixtures and drinking fountains daily. 8. Keeps the grounds free from litter, 9. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of repair. 10. Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of completing. 11. Reports needed major repairs and mechanical problems promptly to the principal or his/her designee and the Operations Manager.  12.  Reports immediately to the principal or head custodian and the Supervisor of Facilities and Grounds/Operations Manager any damage to school property. 13. Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal or his/her designee. 14. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. 15. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the Operations Manager far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in a timely fashion. 16. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal or his/her designee. 17. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. 18. Stores and disposes properly of all hazardous and potentially hazardous materials.19. Performs summer maintenance tasks, including major cleaning, room repairs, classroom moves, painting, etc. 20. Performs any other appropriate responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator or the Supervisor of Facilities and Grounds/Operations Manager. 21. Supports and promotes the District's Core Ethical Values with students, colleagues, and parents.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate custodial/maintenance tools and machinery, cleaning equipment and hand and/or power tools. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to a variety of conditions including: wet or humid, work near moving parts, work in high precarious places, a variety of cleaning agents, some hazardous chemicals and fumes, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens
