Building Engineer

Pay Grade:   47B (Hourly $22.28)  Salary Based on Experience
Work Days:  261

Primary Purpose:
Respond to maintenance issues to ensure proper/safe operation and appearance of buildings. 
 
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent (required)                       
Valid Texas driver’s license                           
Driving record that is insurable with Plano ISD’s insurance carrier
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
 
Ability to communicate well and deal with all people in a courteous and positive manner
Ability to read and interpret documents, such as blue prints, specifications, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Detailed-oriented, self-starter and excellent customer service skills 
Proficiency with computer and common computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Outlook)
 
Experience:
Four years of experience related to building maintenance
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Work with building principal and cluster manager to ensure proper and safe operation and appearance of building
• Analyze and determine what is needed to make repair utilizing prints, plans or verbal instruction
• Select material and hardware; may make time and material estimates
• Work with technicians on building repairs when needed
• Generate work orders online and submit to supervisor for authorization; and follow up through completion
•  Request and receive supplies
• Assist with HVAC temperature control
• Report needed repairs to supervisor and cluster manager
• Follow safety rules and procedures
• Inform supervisor and/or proper authorities of any safety hazard
• Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from supervisors
• Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor
• Perform other functions that may be assigned by the administration and/or supervisor

Equipment Used:    
Power tools, hand tools, measuring devises, electrical meters and other tools needed to perform duties

Maintain emotional control under stress and severe time constraints; extended hours may be required
 
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Required to climb on ladders, bend, stoop and reach above the head; noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; occasional work with chemical irritants; frequent standing, sitting, bending, stooping, pushing, climbing and pulling; occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; work under all types of weather conditions
