Bus Aide/Attendant (Part Time)
 
LOCATION: Bus Attendant - District
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  5.50 hours per day, approximately 177 days per year.  (Pro-rated if after the start of the school year)
 
JOB GOAL:  To assist educational professionals in the educational process as bus attendant  for district transportation of orthopedically handicapped.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform/Assist as follows:
 

  •  Assist in loading and unloading of pupils, including lift operation.
  • Ensure that pupils and equipment are properly secured to ensure safe transport. Adjust, fasten, and release restraint devices for pupils and equipment, as required. Continually, monitor overall safety of pupils and equipment
  • Ensure that all pupils remain seated at all times when riding the school bus.
  • Assist the driver during unusual traffic conditions; act as a lookout when the driver is backing the bus.
  •  Assist the driver in the enforcement of all state and District bus safety regulations.
  •  Perform record keeping tasks related to pupil attendance and bus assignment.
  •  Monitor and report pupil misbehavior according to established procedure.
  •  Assist the driver in keeping the interior of the bus clean. Assist the driver with the post-trip inspection to ensure no pupil is left on board the bus.
  •  Assist pupils with disabilities as prescribed in the pupil’s IEP and with personal needs associated with their disabilities.
  •  Assist in bus evacuation drills.
  •  Work cooperatively with all school personnel and parents, guardians and Relative Caregivers.
  •  Attend in-service activities as assigned
  •  Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or designee

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma/GED(transcript/verification must be provided to the Seaford School District Human Resource Office)
  • Ability to relate to  staff members and students on a daily basis and in a pleasant and effective manner
  • Must possess proficient reading skills
  • Must be willing to adapt to changing responsibilities
  • Ability to relate to students, parents, and staff members on a daily basis and in a pleasant and effective manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members
  • Ability to drive a bus in a manner assuring a safe and comfortable environment before and during travel
  • Ability to work flexible hours within the time-frame of the school day in addition to the times spent in transit to or from school
  • Ability to manipulate and secure students in seating devices and provide general assistance to bus students
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and team lift 80 pounds
  • Complete the school bus driver classroom training and other District required training programs satisfactorily
  • Must hold or obtain within 4 months a valid school bus endorsed CDL

NOTE:  A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required for all employees of the Seaford School District.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  All new state employees will be required to participate in the State of Delaware's Direct Deposit system.  With direct deposit, wage and salary payments are deposited in the employee's bank account via electronic funds transfer.

All final candidates for employment must have a satisfactory criminal background check before being placed on contract/payroll as per State of Delaware regulations. Candidates must call the Delaware State Police at (800) 464-4357 to make an appointment.  The cost of the criminal background check is $65 (expense borne by the prospective employee).  Final candidates must also receive a satisfactory child protection registry check.

Final candidates must also produce documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.
 
The State of Delaware has initiated a lag pay policy which means that new employees will receive the first paycheck at the end of the second pay period of work.
