Description

Position Title: Behavior Specialist

Reports To: Building Principal / Designated Administrator

Position Summary: The Behavior Specialist works with students in an effort to treat thier behavior by helping them develop better coping mechanisms necessary in the proper development of life and social interaction skills.

Job Requiements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Development, Education, Physcology or other related field (Required)
  • 5 years experience working as a Behavior Specialist or close related field.
  • Experience working in the Public School Sector (K-12)
Job Description:
  1. Observing stimuli that prompt behavioral reactions
  2. Working with students individually or in small groups
  3. Referring students to other professionals, if needed
  4. Helping parents understand how a diagnosis affects behaviors
  5. Communicating IEPs to parents and teachers
  6. Advocating for students
  7. Educating teachers on how to help student in classroom settings
  8. Educating other adults, such as medical professionals who regularly interact with students
  9. Conducting outreach about behavioral and mental health disorders
  10. Provide support and assistance to classroom teachers in the development and implementation of behavioral interventions and related plans and strategies for students with behavioral issues
  11. Confer with faculty and staff concerning student behavior, interventions and instructional activities
  12. Participate in the implementation of individualized treatment plans to meet the behavioral and social-emotional needs of identified students such as behavior intervention plans (BIP), behavior support plans (BSP) or Individual Education Programs (IEP), which include parents or guardians
  13. Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved policies and procedures as directed.
  14. Assist in establishing and maintaining behavioral goals and objectives for individual students; monitor, assess and assist with the adjustment of behavior intervention activities in response to student needs, and progress.
  15. Collaborate with faculty, staff and others in the design, development and implementation of behavior support plans to meet the educational needs of students; observe and assess student behavior in the classroom; report progress concerning student performance and behavior.
  16. Provide consultation and technical assistance to faculty, staff and others concerning behavior interventions; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning related students, plans, strategies, practices, techniques, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
  17. Assist in the prevention of student crises; maintain classroom safety during crisis situations utilizing appropriate classroom behavior control techniques.
  18. Communicate with faculty, staff and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues
  19. Support the Wilkinson County School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
  20. Maintain proper professional conduct as defined in the Codes of Ethics.
  21. Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Building Principal or Designated Administrator.
