Description
Position: School Nutrition Technician/ Cook
Department: School Nutrition/ Operations
Reports to: Cafeteria Manager, or School Nutrition Director
Job Type: Hourly/ Full time and part-time
Work Schedule: 186 day contract
Job Summary/ Primary Purpose:
Work cooperatively with other nutrition team members to provide excellent food and outstanding customer service to students, teachers, staff, and visitors for the LISA Academy school district.
Performance Responsibilities/ Roles & Responsibilities:
- Adheres to recipes and directions for the number of meals to be served.
- Calculates ingredients needed, measures, and mixes them.
- Portions the food and menu items according to the recipe or from the Cafeteria Manager
- Prepares food to look appealing and pleasing to the student’s eyes and serves food to students and if needed serves to teachers, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
- Take the initiative to step in and help other team members with cooking, cleaning, serving, etc. To help the team accomplish tasks for the day.
- Manages the serving line efficiently.
- Maintain a high level of customer service.
- Maintain high standards of sanitary conditions in the cafeteria including employee cleanliness, food handling, preparation, and storage.
- Communicate efficiently with the manager on the needs or adjustments.
- Provide input on menus that will encourage student consumption.
- Attend meetings for the kitchen site as needed.
- Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and serving in large quantities.
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
- Skill in the use of food preparation equipment
- Ability to follow computer-based training, use common computer applications, and email.
- Ability to operate electronic point of sales systems.
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Displays the willingness to further job knowledge by in job-related training, professional activities, and relating skills obtained from training to performance on the job.
Physical Requirements
- Be able to lift 10-25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
- Able to drive nutrition cargo van(s) and vehicles to satellite sites.
- The ability to stand for a 6–8-hour shift.
- Ability to withstand temperature extremes (going in and out of walk-in freezers and refrigerators, working around hot ovens, etc.)
Experience & Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in cooking for an institutional setting or other foodservice cooking experience is preferred with the highest preference given to cooking in school nutrition.
- Servsafe training (or equivalent) is not required but is taken into account.
