Description
Child Nutrition Worker – Part-time
Primary Purpose
Work under moderate supervision to prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.
Qualifications Profile
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- TB Skin Test/Physical completed and on file
- Ability to pass a background check
- Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested and uniform recipes.
- Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies and procedures, and practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
- Store and handle food items and supplies safely and according to established procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards and follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
- Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Must be able to read and verbalize English language labels and menus
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
- Handle and record cashier functions accurately.
- Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
- Maintain daily food preparation records.
- Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
- Complete annual continuing education requirements.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Comply with all district policies, rules, and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions
- Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
- Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools
- Ability to perform basic math
Physical Requirement/Mental Demands/Environmental Conditions
- Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.
- Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time, continually walk, and climb (ladder).
- Requires the ability to frequently use standard large and small kitchen equipment and tools, including electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep fat fryer, sharp cutting tools, stove, oven, dishwasher, and food/utility cart.
- Requires the ability to frequently kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, grasp/squeeze, flex/extend wrist, and reach, including overhead.
- Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items 15-44 lbs.
- Requires the ability to work inside in a commercial kitchen environment, with exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, extreme humidity, noise, vibration, microwaves, biological hazards (bacteria, mold, fungi), chemical hazards (fumes, vapors, gases), electrical hazards.
- Requires the ability to work with hands in water, around machinery with moving parts, and on slippery surfaces.
- Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions.
- Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

Food warmers, stoves, ovens, slicers, steamers, mixers, various kitchen utensils, serving carts, refrigerator, freezer, dish washer
Travel Requirements
Travels to other district buildings for supplies and professional meetings as required.
Position Specifics:
- Position is considered part-time
- Days expected 175.5 days each year of actual working
- Less than 6 hours per work day. Actual hours may vary.
- Starting pay is $14.30 per hour.
