Position Title: Speech-Language Pathologist
Location: Southampton County Public Schools Academy
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary:
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing speech and language services to students at Southampton County Public Schools Academy. This role includes assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, and communication disorders. The Speech-Language Pathologist collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and promote effective communication skills among students.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students' speech, language, and communication abilities.
- Use standardized tests, observational methods, and other assessment tools to diagnose speech and language disorders.
- Develop detailed assessment reports and provide recommendations for interventions and supports.
Intervention and Treatment:
- Provide individualized and group therapy to address speech, language, and communication disorders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on students' needs and assessment results.
- Utilize evidence-based practices and a variety of therapeutic techniques to improve communication skills.
IEP Development and Implementation:
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of individualized education plans for students with speech and language needs.
- Monitor students' progress and adjust IEP goals and interventions as necessary.
- Collaborate with teachers and other specialists to support the integration of speech and language goals into the classroom setting.
Consultation and Collaboration:
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to support students' speech and language development.
- Provide guidance and training to educators on strategies to support students with speech and language disorders.
- Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress and provide strategies for supporting communication development at home.
Program Development:
- Develop and implement school-wide programs and initiatives to promote effective communication skills.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions for teachers, staff, and parents on topics related to speech and language development.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of speech and language programs and make recommendations for improvement.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with the latest research and best practices in speech-language pathology.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development activities related to speech and language services.
- Provide professional development opportunities for teachers and staff to enhance their ability to support students with speech and language needs.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Valid state certification or licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
- Previous experience in speech-language pathology, particularly in a school setting, preferred.
- Strong knowledge of speech and language assessment and intervention techniques.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Proficiency in the use of technology for assessment, record-keeping, and communication.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and move freely for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and move educational materials and supplies as necessary.
- Ability to supervise and interact with students in a variety of settings.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a school setting and may require traveling between classrooms and schools.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for school events and meetings.
