Description

Lake Forest School District 67 is seeking a full-time 5th Grade Math/Science Teacher at Deer Path Middle School.

Description: The classroom teacher is responsible for helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible adults.

Qualifications:
Education. Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred)

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • A current State of Illinois teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements  
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • The classroom teacher must possess the ability to work tactfully and effectively with the students, teachers, administrators, other employees of the school district, and the public in accomplishing the purpose of this position
  • He/she must display evidence of an educational philosophy in agreement with that of the school and district
  • He/she should display an understanding of those theories of learning most closely associated with the district's present educational program
  • He/she must display an ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents

Essential Functions:
Instructional Methods/Assessment of Learning
  • Communicates high expectations for every student
  • Provides opportunities for every student to succeed
  • Teaches utilizing a variety of best practice strategies
  • Leads students to higher-level thinking skills through questioning strategies which require students to recall, explain, compare and contrast, synthesize, and evaluate information
  • Uses a variety of learning aids, technology, materials, and equipment to stimulate higher-level thinking
  • Involves all students in the learning process and adjusts instruction according to the needs of the students
  • Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic and prescriptive instructional techniques
    • Is knowledgeable about a variety of evaluation tools and uses them appropriately to assess student progress
    • Seeks assistance from qualified sources when needed for more comprehensive diagnosis
    • Adapts the design of the lesson, instructional methods, and materials to the specific needs and abilities of individual pupils
    • Monitors and evaluates students on the basis of learner outcomes as defined in district curriculum
  • Makes use of local and standardized assessment results in planning for instruction
Planning and Preparation/Knowledge
  • Demonstrates effective preparation for student instruction
  • Plans lessons linked to the curriculum to reflect an understanding of group and individual student needs utilizing all available resources including a variety of teaching materials and support staff
  • Demonstrates knowledge of content/curriculum
    • Effectively implements curriculum defined by the district
      • Interrelates concepts, themes, and strategies
      • Relates new content to material previously presented
    • Has command of subject content
      • Presents accurate information
      • Presents material appropriate to developmental level of students
  • Implements scope and sequence of the curriculum at the appropriate level and relates plans to clearly defined objectives which are consistent with district curriculum

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel materials. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

In the work environment, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in office environmental conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally works with the use of a personal vehicle. The employee will have contact with the public which requires appropriate demeanor and apparel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
