FULL-TIME ATHLETIC TRAINER (CONTRACTED) JOB DESCRIPTION

REQUIREMENTS: 

1. Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification. 

2. Maintain current state licensure in accordance with the Pennsylvania State Board of Athletic Training. 

3. Maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.

REPORTS TO:  Supervisor of Lifeline Physical Therapy Grove City who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the district athletic director and high school principal. 

JOB GOAL: Provide athletic trainer coverage for high school and middle school athletic programs as well as part time physical therapy technician duties for Lifeline Physical Therapy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The athletic training will practice said profession within the parameters of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Licensing Law as laid out by the Pennsylvania State Board of Athletic Training, and will follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association.  These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs.  The athletic trainer’s duties, enumerated in this document should not be considered all inclusive.  The Athletic Director, as necessary, shall modify duties  The athletic trainer will be present at home athletic contests and practices and shall attend other post-season and home-hosted contents as directed by the Athletic Director.

 

1.     Establish an effective athletic training program for high school and middle school athletics. 

2.      Provide first-aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for Grove City Area School District student-athletes.  The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making appropriate physician referral. 

3.      Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of the fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season per defined schedule.

4.      Supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.

5.      Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.

6.     Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.

7.      Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room.

8.      Maintain communication with parents on the care & treatment for their student-athlete.

9.      File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.

10.    Maintain a daily treatment log.

11.    Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up to date inventory  Provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment.

12.    Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment.

13.    Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping pads or braces.

14.    Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.

15.    Share professional literature relative to athletic training with the school's coaching staff.

16.    The athletic trainer will work in accordance with a weekly schedule to be determined by the Athletic Director.  Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season.

17. Organizes the administration of Impact testing for the appropriate athletic teams.

Additional Part-Time Responsibilities at Lifeline Physical Therapy

As part of the athletic training duties and responsibilities, the athletic trainer will also assist at Lifeline Physical Therapy.  The athletic trainer will work collaboratively with the Lifeline Physical Therapy team to enhance the patient experience in accordance with the Pennsylvania State Practice Act.  

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with patient care in accordance with the Pennsylvania State Practice Act.

  2. Assist with equipment and patient preparation in accordance with the Pennsylvania State Practice Act.

  3. Assist with facility upkeep as needed.
