Must hold a license issued by Virginia Department of Education.
The license must be in Collegiate Professional License.
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Algebra I, Algebra II, Calculus, Geometry, Math (General), Pre-Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Trigonometry.
The license must be in one of the following grades: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.
The license status must be active or about to graduate from a state-approved teacher preparation program.


TITLE: Mathematics Teacher


1. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university. 2. Appropriate State of Virginia Teaching Certificate. 3. Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned. 4. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel and members of the community.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.


• Plans a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and approaches to the maturity and interests of the students. • Prepares for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. • Implements effective instructional strategies that results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress. • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in congruency with those goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate said objectives to students. • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, technology and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. • Strives to implement by instruction and action the division's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. • Diagnoses the instructional needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of division specialists as required. • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by division policy and administrative procedures. • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for educational assistants and/or volunteers(s). • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as appropriate to the individual school site or division. • The work of the teacher results in acceptable, measureable, and appropriate student academic progress.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
