JOB OVERVIEW:
Work directly with a student as determined by the IEP
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  1. Serve as an instructional assistant for a special education child as per the Individualized Education Plan
  2. Assists the teacher in achieving teaching and learning objectives working with the individual student addressing his/her needs, interests and abilities
  3. Communicates with and alerts the teacher to any problems or special information related to the student
  4. Assist the teacher with the management and supervision of students in the classroom to ensure a safe and productive learning environment
  5. Assists with the supervision of students, and other duties in the school, as assigned by the principal

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • All instructional assistants must have a statement of approval from the Illinois State Board of Education, including a statement of having acquired State and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Highly Qualified status.  This approval is based on meeting one of the following:
                        • Completion of 60 semester hours of college credit
                        • Completion of paraprofessional training program approved by ISBE or ICCB
                        • Passage of the ETS Parapro Assessment, or
                        • Passage of the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers
  • Illinois elementary teaching certificate preferred
  • Ability to speak foreign language/Spanish preferred
 
EVALUATION:        As per current collective bargaining agreement

Employment Terms/Hours:  6.5 hours/day; five days per week

Salary:  As per current Support Staff Contract.
