POSITION GOAL(S):
Building substitutes implement daily student instructional plans in the absence of the classroom teacher, guide the learning process toward the achievement of the District curriculum and goals in an effective manner, ensure a safe classroom environment and proper classroom management, and maintain reasonable rules of conduct encouraging self-discipline and responsibility. Building substitutes serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism that includes a positive attitude, positive and respectful communication, and professional appearance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Reports to the main office upon arrival for assignments and check out in the main office at the end of the day. Adheres to the work schedule to allow enough time for check in, review of substitute plans, and be prepared for the day when the students enter the classroom.
2. Assumes all duties and responsibilities required by the absent teacher including (i.e. supervision, attendance, hall duty, study hall, lunchroom/recess, etc.).
3. Complies with all building procedures,schedules and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
4. Provides feedback to the teacher regarding instruction, discipline, and other events of the day
5. Actively engages with students during assignments, clearly communicates expectations, and adapts to individual learning needs, providing individual and small group instruction. Does not leave students unsupervised.
6. Implements classroom management practices that are aligned with building standards and procedures.
7. Maintains a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in regards to school, students, parents, or other staff members.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. Ability to effectively provide information and respond to questions from the administration, parents, students, and staff members working with them cooperatively and effectively.
2. Ability to handle stressful situations and adapt to change at short notice.

EDUCATION:
1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Illinois State Board of Education Licensure requirements for Building Substitute Teachers include one of the following (license must be registered in Kane County):
           • Professional Educator License
           • Substitute Teaching License

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a position for the 2024-2025 academic year only. Salary and benefits are as established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support service personnel.
