Tiny Tots Counselor Summary
The Camp Counselor is responsible for the care of a group of children age 34 years old; lead daily camp activities; supervise junior camp counselors; and provide moral leadership by being a positive role model. The Counselor will plan and lead recreational activities in a safe, fun and innovative manner, accompany assigned group of campers to each activity and stay with them, teach and supervise campers. The Counselor must attend all camp orientation sessions and work the full eight weeks of day camp. Work on the Park District's Independence Day celebration is mandatory.

Mandatory Camp Dates and Trainings
Camp Training and Orientation Dates: Starting June 8, 2020. Specific dates/times to be disclosed during the interview.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must attend all camp orientation sessions and work the full eight weeks of day camp (Counselors are not paid for absences)
  • Attend and be on time to daily morning meetings
  • Be prompt to all scheduled activities
  • Be active in all the daily activities, and teach and encourage children to participate in all the activities
  • Responsible for arrival and dismissal of campers
  • Keep attendance on forms provided
  • Plan and lead recreational activities in a safe, fun and innovative manner
  • Follow through with all other duties as assigned by Camp Director and Early Childhood Supervisor
  • Responsible for the care and upkeep of all supplies, including clean up at end of camp day
  • Maintain safety of campers at all times, including beach, bus and field trips
  • Communicate with parents, children and other Wilmette Park District staff professionally and consistently
  • Attend and participate in required safety training
  • Obey all Park District and Departmental safety rules, regulations and procedures applicable to the duties being performed
  • Become familiar with safety procedures, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather and evacuation procedures
  • Prepare accident reports on any injured campers and administer First aid as required
  • Report all accidents to camp parent and Camp Director
  • Have fun!
Safety Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the care and upkeep of all camp equipment
  • Maintain safety of campers at all times including beach, bus and field trips
  • Attend and participate in required safety training
  • Obey all Park District and departmental safety rules, regulations and procedures applicable to the duties being performed
  • Become familiar with safety procedures, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather and evaluation procedures
  • Prepare accident reports for any injured campers. Report all accidents to parent and Early Childhood Supervisor as necessary
  • Prepare incident reports when needed. 
Education and Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and have completed at least 3 years of high school by the start of camp
  • Must be available all eight weeks of camp
  • Comfortable with traveling to and acting as a chaperone on field trips and to the beach
  • Previous work with children, preferably in a camp setting
  • Excellent verbal skills necessary, as well as ability to communicate with extreme diplomacy, professionalism, and graciousness
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Superior organizational abilities, attention to detail, initiative and independence
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Attend all required training, safety and planning sessions and camp Open House
