MANDARIN IMMERSION ELEMENTARY GRADE TEACHER   

 
 
Overview:
Batesville Community School Corporation (BCSC) in Batesville, Indiana is now accepting applications for a Mandarin Speaking Elementary Teacher at Batesville Intermediate School.  The Mandarin Immersion Elementary Teacher will be responsible for teaching Indiana standards in Mandarin in a 50/50 one-way Dual Language Immersion Program.

Qualifications: 
  • High level of proficiency in both Mandarin (including understanding traditional, simplified and pinyin systems) and English, both written and oral.
  • A valid teaching license in Elementary Education issued by the Indiana Department of Education. (BCSC will provide assistance with obtaining a license if the candidate currently is licensed in another state or country.)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Entrepreneurial passion; the ability to thrive in the excitement and ambiguity of a start-up environment of a Dual Language Immersion Program.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based upon Indiana Standards.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Teach Indiana Standards in an elementary classroom.
  • Provide a nurturing and growth-minded climate conducive to learning Mandarin Chinese and Indiana standards aligned to the subjects taught.
  • Create and implement an effective, high-quality, rigorous program that builds bi-literacy skills and multi-cultural appreciation via a variety of instructional techniques.
  • Work with a team of English speaking educators on planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities.
  • Communicate with families regarding student progress, ideas and support for learning.
  • Assess and monitor each student’s academic and language proficiency growth using multiple measures, including formative and summative assessments.
  • Utilize student data to inform classroom practice.
  • Assume responsibility, with other members of staff, for specified duties such as lunch duty and dismissal supervision.

Salary:
Determined by BCSC Master Agreement.
