Summary:

The Resource Room Teacher serves as a primary source of supplementary academic support to students with disabilities with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The Resource Room Teacher collaborates with general education teachers to ensure that accommodations and modifications are implemented as outlined in the students’ IEPs.

Desired Competencies:

• Excellent written and oral communications skills;

• Knowledge to assist classroom teacher with modifications and accommodations;

• Ability to motivate low performing students;

• Appropriate classroom management skills;

• Range of appropriate instructional strategies

Education/Experience:

• Masters’ degree preferred, in Special Education

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certification

Duties and Responsibilities:

Employee’s primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assess the needs of students using appropriate diagnostic measures;

• Write legally compliant Individual Education Plans (IEPs);

• Write lesson plans and deliver instruction aligned to students’ goals and objectives as outlined in the IEP;

• Measure progress of students toward set goals and objectives and communicate this progress to all members of the students’ IEP Team;

• Use task analysis to break down tasks into instructional steps;

• Assist in changing students behaviors which interfere with school performance;

• Collaborate with general education teachers, staff, outside agencies and parents about the needs and services for students with disabilities;

• Maintain legal compliance regarding the rules and regulations of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA);

• Collaborate with ancillary personnel (occupational therapist, school social worker) to ensure implementation of related services and strategies;

• Perform other duties as assigned.
