Job Title: High School Counselor Division / Department: Academic
Reporting to:  Associate Principal Job Location: Qingdao, China
Direct Report: None    
 

Overall Description
Provide social and emotional counseling to Qingdao Okma International Academy students. This position will also be supporting college-counseling services. Counselor supports students in the Qingdao Okma International Academy, Qingdao China, by performing the duties listed below.
Major Responsibilities
  1. 1. Provide social and emotional counseling to QIA students.
  2. Assess student academic performance and consult with classroom teachers and administration on appropriate interventions.
  3. Coordinate support services with other service providers.
  4. Participate in school planning meetings.
  5. Communicate and consult with parents.
  6. Meet with teachers regarding student needs.
  7. Meet with building instructional team to discuss student academic and social needs.
  8. Coordinate college-counseling services with college counseling consultants, college admissions representatives, parents and students.
9. Support enrichment program.
10. Participate in International Baccalaureate training.
11. Assist in developing school curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid secondary counseling certificate with necessary endorsements: Teaching Certification and Secondary Teaching Experience is preferred. International living or teaching preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Qualification and certification in counseling at the high school level with endorsement in Guidance & Counseling. Interest and qualification to work with Chinese language speakers is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Highly proficient in written and verbal communication with a particular emphasis on subject area, specific competencies and emphatic communications.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:  Ability to use computer technology for research, data management, communications and other instruction.
REASONING ABILITY: Highly proficient in subject areas of: reasoning, problem solving, organizational dynamics and emotional intelligence.
