Under the direction of the Director of Facilities the Custodian performs a variety of job functions essential to the successful operation of the facility. The Custodian ensures a clean and safe working environment for all students, teachers, staff and visitors.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Culture, Ethics and Integrity
    • Understands, communicates, and exemplifies the goals and vision of the organization and the Head of School’s Office.
    • Contributes to and maintains the organization’s culture and identity, using the organization’s Core Values as a guide.
    • Helps create an environment and culture that enables the organization to fulfill its mission by meeting and exceeding its annual and long-term goals by: conveying the school’s mission to all staff, motivating and providing staff with the resources required to improve performance, and holding staff accountable to performance.
  2. Operational Leadership
    • Clean & sanitize all restrooms
    • Clean, dust mop, sweep and vacuum all floors in classrooms, hallways, offices and cafeteria.
    • Report any malfunctions of equipment or items in need of repair.
    • Adhere to instructions & directions as given by Supervisors.
    • Remove all trash, recycling, litter and debris from facility.
    • Maintain the general cleanliness of the facility grounds.
    • Ensure all classrooms, offices and workspaces are locked at the end of the night.
    • Maintain outside courtyard areas including sweeping debris and removing trash.
    • Summer – Complete summer cleaning task such as extensive cleaning of classrooms, corridors, workspaces, cafeterias, auditoriums and offices, stripping and waxing floors, painting, minor repairs to building, etc.
  3. Strategic Planning
    • Report progress to Supervisor.
    • Keep track of cleaning supplies and report to supervisor.
    • Report facility repairs: e.g. broken windows, pipes, leaks, plumbing issues, etc.
  4. Resource Management
    • Assist other team members with specific task and duties.
  5. Advocacy
    • Assist with securing the exterior of the building at the end of the night.
  6. Other
    • Carry out all task outlined in the custodian scope of work.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate. Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and or situations. Must be a self-starter who can work well with a team environment. Knowledge of custodial material suppliers and proper storage of cleaning chemicals. Experience with vacuum cleaners and general cleaning equipment.
Custodian position requires a team player attitude, communication skills, attention to details, problem solving and emergency management. Custodian has a clear understanding of code compliance, preventative and corrective maintenance procedures, safety and security. Knowledge of OSHA and MSDS compliance, hazardous substances, noise, waste, water and other environmental regulations.
Work Conditions
Able to climb up and down stairs. Able to lift objects of up to 50 lbs. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and stand for extended periods of time.  Exposure to dust, fumes, poor ventilation, chemical, electrical and mechanical hazards.  This position may entail extended work days, weekend duties, on-call responsibilities, and the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at one time. Able to perform work inside and outside the property with exposure to inclement weather. Regular exposure to dust.
Other Requirements
Valid Louisiana Driver’s License
