Job Title: Substitute Food Service/Cafeteria Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The job of the Substitute Food Service Worker was established for the purpose of providing support to the food service activities at any of our operating cafeterias with specific responsibilities of preparing and serving food items to students and/or school personnel, operating the cash registers and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition on an as needed basis. We have locations inside QVCC in Danielson, Pomfret, Hampton, Scotland and Columbia. As a subsitute you may be required to report to any of these locations.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 Performs a variety of tasks concerned with the preparation and serving of foods and beverages
 Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware
 Wash, peel, scrape, and cuts vegetables and fruits 
 Prepare a variety of foods according to customer orders or supervisor instructions, following approved procedures
 Prepares simple salads and toast 
 Makes coffee, tea, and other beverages
 Dish out portions of foods on trays or plates, and pours beverages 
 Prepare dining and serving areas by setting up counters, stands, and tables
 Scrapes, washes and sorts dishes, glassware, and silverware 
 Clean kitchen equipment, pots and pans, counters, and tables
 Sweeps and mop floors
 Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage
 Package take-out foods and/or serve food to customers
 Portion and wrap the food, or place it directly on plates for service to patrons
 Place food trays over food warmers for immediate service, or store them in refrigerated storage cabinets
 Inform supervisors when supplies are getting low or equipment is not working properly
 Operate P.O.S. computer, including completing credit card transactions and making accurate change

EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 3 years Food Service experience
Experience with National School Lunch program preferred
 
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent
