Teacher - English Language Learners (ELL) (#329991)
JOB GOAL: To provide each student that English is not their language of proficiency with individually tailored help, counsel, and learning experience he/she needs to make progress toward educational goals established within the school division’s general curriculum.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Determines specific language support, skill deficiencies, or social adjustment difficulties of students identified as English language learners and initiates instruction and/or remediation in these areas. 2. Implements effective instructional strategies that results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress. 3. Plans a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. 4. Provides students with tutoring support for other content areas. 5. Evaluates each student in terms of initial needs and progress toward remediation. 6. Monitors and reports student progress. 7. Counsels students in identifying and dealing with their academic needs and social problems. 8. Provides opportunities for students to share and explore cultural differences. 9. Establishes and maintains standards of individual student behavior. 10. Works closely with other teachers to help the students maintain satisfactory classwork, homework, and behavior. 11. Helps parents to understand the specific educational needs of students and the goals and operation of the program, apprising them of problems and progress. 12. Participates in case conferences about educational needs of students. 13. Performs functions to facilitate communication pertinent to the educational program. 14. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of instructing English Language Learners and discusses problems of mutual interest with other resource teachers. 15. Meets and instructs at the times designated. 16. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative procedures. 17. Assists the administration in implementing all requirements for meeting State and Federal guidelines for instructing English Language Learners. 18. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. 19. Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as appropriate to the individual school site or division.
