This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience with Integrated Pest Management practices and procedures. Incumbent must have a current certified applicators license in pest control and a valid Texas Operators Driver’s License.
This position requires incumbent to have thorough knowledge of pesticides and associated laws that regulate the use of pesticides. Incumbent must have thorough knowledge of buildings, building materials and building construction, as well as the ability to perform multiple projects and maintain accurate records. Incumbent must be able to read labels, laws, and regulations to determine if a safety hazard exists and requires immediate attention. This position requires the ability to operate a computer.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
This position is responsible for application of pest and weed control products to ensure all chemicals are dispensed in a correct manner, in compliance with Federal, State, and Local environmental safety laws, regulations, and ordinances. Incumbent prepares and maintains records to insure compliance with Local, State and Federal Integrated Pest Management and General Pest Control rules and regulations. Incumbent must have current Texas Operators Driver’s License in possession at all times while operating Austin ISD vehicles.
- Conducts application of pesticides of all Austin ISD facilities.
- Develops and maintains accurate records of Pest Control Activities.
- Conducts facility inspections.
- Communicates verbally and in writing to supervisor and facility administrators.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Both indoor and outdoor work is performed when applying pesticides/insecticides and other chemicals. Incumbent must be in good physical condition, capable of bending, crawling, standing, squatting, and climbing for extended periods of time. Work demands do not always coincide with Austin ISD holidays and may demand duty on weekends and holidays. Hazards include climbing to heights up to fifty (50) feet, lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds, and working with or around hazardous materials and chemicals. Incumbent should possess good manual dexterity and physical endurance. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position. Incumbent may be required to work hours in addition to their normal 8-hour duty day. Incumbent may also be required to carry a pager and work on an “on call” basis. On call time will not require working on premises, but simply being available on short notice if the need arises.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the Integrated Pest Management Foreman. Incumbent performs substantial work under general guidelines as well as routine tasks with limited supervision. Incumbent may supervise volunteer workers from other departments. Incumbent will provide recurring guidance and consultation to all Service Department employees. Incumbent will consult with other Austin ISD offices, as well as outside agencies and vendors.
Pay Grade: MT8
Starting Salary: $15.73/Hr
