Job Title:  .5 Elementary PreK-8th ExpandEd EL Teacher

 

Credentials: Current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate with endorsements for the appropriate level/subject area (Grades K-5).

 

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field from College/university recognized by State Board of Education.

 

Training or experience required: Experience in online instruction preferred, but not required. Experience in multiple grade levels preferred.

 

Reports to: ExpandEd Online Administrator

 

Contract: 200 days 

 

Salary Schedule: Certified Salary Schedule.

 

FLSA Classification: Exempt

 

 

Job Goal:  The EL teacher provides support for students, parents and teachers to assist with school engagement and the development of students’ English language proficiency.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  1. Possesses a broad scope and knowledge of subject matter and is acquainted with recent developments in teaching of the subject; participates in and contributes to curriculum development programs, as required.

  2. Understands and applies the principles of child development as related to physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth.

  3. Understands and uses a variety of strategies to facilitate online learning and provides many opportunities for participation by all students.

  4. Creates independent and confident users of English for social and academic settings.

  5. Facilitates the development of English language proficiency in the domains of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

  6. Provides support and resources to teachers and other staff.

  7. Provides parent and community outreach, as well as supports for parents to assist them in serving as the learning coach for their child. 

  8. Serves as a member of the site intervention team as requested.

  9. Keeps on-going and accurate documentation and records for currently enrolled EL students as well as monitored students.

  10. Monitors student progress.

  11. Assists with required testing including identification of appropriate accommodations and administering tests as needed.

  12. Administers the ACCESS 2.0 exam to ELs annually.

  13. Facilitates the Home Language Survey process, including administration of student screenings.

  14.  Displays knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues.

  15.  Presents trainings to staff in order to support ELs.

  16. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that effectively utilize the available time for instruction.

  17. Defines objectives, which contribute to attainment of district and site objectives and adjusts for individual and group differences in the formulation of those goals.

  18. Relates objectives, involves all learners, explains directions, adjusts based on monitoring, guides practice, establishes closure, and demonstrates desired skill.

  19.  Makes assignments related to objectives and arranges for differentiated assignments to meet the needs and abilities of students.

  20. Evaluates students' academic growth fairly and impartially, utilizing standardized tests, as well as teacher designed assessments.  Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.  Keeps appropriate and accurate records and prepares reports relating to students' progress.  Identifies students' needs.  Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

  21. Is familiar with, and abides by, all district policies and procedures.  Is familiar with and teaches adopted courses of study.  Selects and uses appropriate materials to facilitate teaching and learning of the adopted curriculum.

  22. Maintains building, equipment and supplies in the best possible condition and promotes those same attitudes in students.

  23. Establishes rapport with students conducive to learning.

  24. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.  Meets the district requirement for professional development activities.

  25. Supervises students during out of class times in the course of the workday.

  26. Carries out designated share of extracurricular school activities.

  27. Demonstrates professional and ethical attitudes toward the district, the school, employees, and the public.

  28. Demonstrates emotional maturity, initiative and self-reliance.  Solves problems.  Responds to criticism in a constructive manner.

  29. Develops and maintains open communication.  Works cooperatively with administrators, colleagues, students, and parents.  Shares ideas, materials, and space.  Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.

  30. Demonstrates good judgment in decision making.

  31. Participates in site school improvement planning and faculty committees.

  32. Participates and works on a team with other site educators.

  33. Assists special education students with academic, social and personal needs, as outlined in Individual Education Plans.

  34. Keeps required records in an efficient and legible manner.

  35. Presents a professional appearance appropriate to the teaching assignment.

  36. Performs other related duties as assigned by building and district administrators.

  37. Performs teaching and reporting requirements identified as part of state and federally funded programs.
