JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Summary/Objective: Elmwood Park CUSD 401 is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, child-centered speech-language pathologist to work collaboratively with administration and staff to meet the needs of students in a District that services students from early childhood through transition age (3-21). The speech-language pathologist supports the development of students’ speech and language skills within the school setting.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  1. Provides direct and consultative speech therapy to students including assessment, developing goals, individualized education plans (IEP), program planning and implementation, documentation, and communication with students, families, and other staff members.
  2. Provides services to meet students’ individual speech and language needs as based on students’ goals.
  3. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring students when there are suspected or identified speech and/or language impairments.
  4. Conducts comprehensive evaluations of students’ including speech, voice, language, and fluency for evaluation and IEP meetings and makes recommendations.
  5. Completes written reports for IEP meetings.
  6. Provides training and in-services to staff on speech-related topics as needed.
  7. Works collaboratively to provide comprehensive speech therapy services to students. 
  8. Serves as a member of a student’s IEP team.
  9. Knowledge and skills in various methods of assessment to support eligibility decision-making, intervention plan development, and progress monitoring of students’ skills and functional abilities.
  10. Knowledge and skills in various methods of data collection to support program review and goal setting.
  11. Consultation and collaboration skills to be a supportive resource on a variety of topics including strategies, interventions and supports that can be provided to students within and outside of the classroom setting to develop students’ communication skills.
  12. Utilizes assistive devices or technology to support students’ language development.
  13. Communication with students, parents, teachers, other personnel, and outside agencies for the purpose of evaluation and plan development. 
  14. Experience providing individual, small group, and classroom interventions.
  15. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and child development.
  16. Maintains thorough records for students on caseload.
  17. Maintains lists of referred, screened and eligible students.
  18. Adheres to applicable principles and practices of speech therapy, District policies and procedures, and state regulations.
  19. Additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: None.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, which may include students.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. 

Travel: This position may require travel between buildings.
 
Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree and current Illinois licensure through the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations. 
 
Preferred Education and Experience: Experience working in a school setting with students ages 3-21.
 
Additionally Desired Qualifications: Experience working with students with a wide range of abilities.
