Summary/Objective: This is a full-time position. The nurse will provide direct nursing services to students to maximize health and wellness for students. All duties are performed in accordance with District/State Board of Education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Responsible for professional nursing treatment of students.
  2. Administers medications in compliance with state regulations and school board policies.
  3. Assists in the development and training of staff regarding the safety and health of students and staff.
  4. Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students in response to clinical assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
  5. Assists with toileting, positioning and related student health needs.
  6. Completes hearing and vision screenings and all applicable reports in the IWAS system.
  7. Receives student immunizations and health information, including seizure and allergy action plans, and develops plans in collaboration with the parent/guardian, student, and other staff members.
  8. Is a member of the Student Services team and completes reports/paperwork for eligibility, IEP and 504 meetings in a timely fashion.
  9. Maintains accurate records and secures said records and medications.

Requires prolonged sitting or standing, physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing and balancing.  Must work indoors and outdoors year-round, in noisy and crowded environments, and around dust, fumes, and odors.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. There are 6 days required to work in the summer (2 in July and 4 in August)

Travel: Travel between buildings is necessary for this position.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree/Graduate of an approved program.
  2. Current license from the State of Illinois to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  3. Current first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation program completion.
  4. Computer literacy and competency in use of existing.
  5. School nurse designation or PEL from the Illinois State Board of Education.
