Job Description
Job Summary:  Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the Communications Assistant has responsibility for, or assists in, planning and developing promotions, publicity and informational services for the school district.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with specialization in Communications, PR, or related field
  • Three years’ experience in the Public Relations field producing press releases, brochures, newsletters and other communications.
  • Mastery of communications skills, proficiency with current technology/software for performance of duties.
 
Primary Activities
  • Serve as public relations counsel to the Board of Education.
  • Handle all aspects of the school district’s publications, external and internal newsletters, brochures, bulletins and letters.
  • Deliver content via Twitter, Facebook, email and other methods.
  • Develop a comprehensive communications plan for the district.
  • Represent the district in various community organizations and promote the development of collaborative initiatives between the schools and local business/industry.
  • Create, deliver, edit, proofread and optimize PR materials.
  • Maintain the district website and ensure accuracy of information presented.
  • Assist in the planning of district/school events.
  • Provide crisis communications support as needed.
  • Assist in the design, drafting and production of publications including parent and community newsletters.
  • Collaborate with district parent associations.
  • Other duties related to public relations and communications as major events and technologies emerge.
 
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
  • Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
 
 
Work Environment
  •  The noise level in the work environment is typical for a school environment.
  • The manager continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people.
  • Work generally performed outdoors and indoors.
