Network Instructional Coach for Math - High School (#284088)
The Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) is a nonprofit school management organization operating in partnership with Chicago Public Schools (CPS). AUSL currently manages 31 turnaround and teacher training schools. When a school is turned around, students return to renovated facilities, a new curriculum, new leadership and staff and an entirely new culture of success by leveraging AUSL's turnaround school framework and specialized teacher training and residency program. All school staff at AUSL turnaround schools are employees of CPS.
AUSL seeks a highly qualified elementary candidate to provide outstanding, individualized coaching and professional development around classroom management and standards-based instruction to the dedicated teachers in AUSL elementary schools. Network Instructional Coaches work closely with teachers to deepen the teachers' understanding of and ability to apply various classroom strategies, deepen their content knowledge and instructional delivery and design, and to bring relentless focus to accelerating student learning.
The Network Instructional Coach for Math will also collaborate with other coaches to develop and deliver professional development that deepens math content knowledge and familiarity with CCSS Math standards and shifts, for teachers and leaders across AUSL's network. All candidates must possess a commitment to deep levels of educational change and reform, resilience of spirit, and an earnest respect and fondness for the children of our schools.Responsibilities * Provide real-time classroom coaching and outstanding, individualized professional development in behavior/classroom management and CCSS-aligned instruction to a caseload of teachers in one school, across a variety of subjects and grade levels. * Analyze teachers' practice and create intentional next steps and guided practice in order to improve teacher practices. * Use a repertoire of strategies for adult learners including real-time, side-by-side classroom coaching, co-planning and co-teaching of lessons, modeling of best practice strategies, analysis of student work, and classroom observation & feedback to improve teacher practices. * Implement the AUSL coaching model, which is active, transparent, collaborative, and highly accountable. Collaborate with administrators and teachers to establish teacher performance goals and coach teachers as necessary to meet those goals. * Complete projects related to the implementation of math curricular initiatives or other professional development at individual schools or across the AUSL school network. * Demonstrate commitment to increasing student achievement with data-driven instruction by collaborating with and supporting teachers and administrators. * Monitor student assessment data and create reports. * Use basic MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google Apps, Gmail and video technology (iPads) to monitor coaching practices and teacher growth.
Qualifications * Master's degree in an education-related field; current IL teaching certificate. * Experience as a successful and innovative teacher and/or teacher coach in Math. Minimum five years of successful classroom teaching experience - preferably experience teaching CCSS Math standards. High School experience strongly preferred. * Extensive experience in urban educational settings. * Extensive knowledge of Common Core Standards in Mathematics and deep understanding and familiarity with the Mathematical Shifts and the Standards for Mathematical practice. * Skills and prior experience coaching or mentoring adult learners. * Excellent time-management, organization, and interpersonal skills. * Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and teamwork skills in working with a diverse group of school and network-based stakeholders. * Strong written and oral communication skills.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), year-round position as an employee of AUSL; it is not a CPS position.
