Head Start Family Service Worker (#283784)
Under the supervision of the Head Start Director and with the direction of the Family Service and Community Partnerships Coordinator, the Family Service Worker facilitates management, integration, documentation and provisions to Head Start families. This position works with the individual families to promote their achievement and success. This position must assist to ensure compliance of Head Start performance standards.
Essential and Position Specific Job Functions: * Develop a working knowledge of Head Start performance standards and policies and procedures. * In collaboration with Head Start management staff assists in the development of content area service plans. * Develop partnerships and establish positive relationships with parents which foster goal identification and plan to support those goals. * Through collaboration with the Family Services and Community Partners Coordinator, assist in the recruitment and selection of children for the program. * Through the enrollment process, assess opportunities for services, and make referrals as needed. Provide information to parents about the Head Start program. * Support parent involvement by encouraging parents to participate in program activities and assist in planning and implementing parent activities including but not limited to Family Nights and Parent as Educational Partners trainings. * Make home visits as needed to support family needs and goals. * Make monthly contact with families to support family needs and goals. * Meet with teaching staff and mental health staff monthly to discuss concerns, progress or identify needs of children and families. * Maintain individual records, ChildPlus records and appropriate documentation of comprehensive services provided to the families and children. * Monitor and track child absences and provide appropriate follow up according to the program’s service area plan * In collaboration with Health Services staff, establish and maintain tracking system for program requirements and to ensure timely follow up for referrals and treatment. * Attend Head Start/Spotsylvania County Schools Health Advisory meetings, State Health Advisory meetings as needed. * Provide necessary reports on the status of program requirements and follow up for referrals and treatment to Family Service Coordinator and Health Service Coordinator * Provide monthly reports to Family Service Coordinator. * Attending trainings, workshops and other professional development opportunities to remain informed of current trends and practices. * Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to relate sensitively with children, and to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and partner specialists. * Ability to follow directions and take imitative to provide required services as specified on the Head Start Performance Standards. * Ability to keep all information regarding children and families strictly confidential. * Demonstrate the ability to design, implement and evaluate comprehensive plans to ensure delivery of disabilities/health/mental health services to children. * Demonstrate the knowledge of technology and its application in relation to providing required information and reports. * Demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication. * Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills. * Demonstrate a general knowledge of basic curriculum and special education programs, and be willing to expand their knowledge of LEA’s procedures.

Salary: 11 month position with a starting salary $19,143
