Reports to: Assistant Principal or Designee

Position summary: Assist the School Nurse by providing care for student health injuries and/or illnesses in an expedient and safe manner. Work with parents, students, and school staff for the control and prevention of disease and for the development of optimum health of each student.

General purpose: Provide basic health care to students and staff
Role qualifications:
  • Must coordinate with School Nurse and Assistant Principal for PPS to meet objectives
  • Must hold a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license
  • Must hold a current CPR certification
  • Must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent
Position responsibilities:
  • Provide appropriate emergency care of illness and/or injury to students and staff in accordance with District policy and procedures, as directed by the School Nurse
  • Keep accurate records of medications received and administered
  • Notify School Nurse and Assistant Principal for PPS of serious incidents, significant health problems, referrals, and potential child abuse
  • Maintain confidentiality of information learned regarding students and their families
  • Maintain a neat and orderly environment
  • Follow District policy regarding the cleaning of equipment
  • Monitor supply inventory and notify School Nurse of needed supplies
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential student health information
  • Ability to react quickly, calmly, and decisively in a crisis

  • Commitment to education and district values
Valued but not required skills and experience:
  • Associate’s degree in nursing or related field
  • Experience working in a high school setting
  • Two years of health assistant or similar experience
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred

Terms of Employment:
  • 10-month work year (180 days)
  • Salary is $15.00/hour and fringe benefits as provided by the current negotiated Agreement
  • Annual performance evaluation
