TITLE: TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (Instructional Technologist)
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, Valid Florida Teaching Certificate preferred
  2. Demonstrates ability to use appropriate technology resources in the classroom learning environment
  3. Knowledge of appropriate technology skills
  4. Interpersonal skills necessary for providing effective inservice that encourages the effective use of technology
  5. Knowledge of a variety of hardware and software applications
  6. Knowledge of current trends in technology that impact education
  7. Possess leadership skills in advancing technology in the K-12 school environment
  8. Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel
  9. Must have a reliable means of transportation
  10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Administrator of Instructional Technology

JOB GOAL: To facilitate and support the effective use of technology in all district schools for teaching and learning based on the technology infrastructure and the integration of technology into the curriculum

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Establish an environment that encourages creative and independent use of instructional technology throughout the school.
  2. Contribute to students’ development of skills in the use of instructional technology resources.
  3. Assist educators in planning for the use and integration of technology in the instructional program.
  4. Model effective uses of appropriate instructional technology in the classroom for teachers and students.
  5. Assist teachers in the use of computers in their classrooms and computer labs.
  6. Assist staff in the use of computer software tools such as word processing, databases, and spreadsheets as part of their instruction and records management.
  7. Develop written instructions and procedures for the use of hardware and software.
  8. Provide technical assistance to facilitate the use of the local, wide area networks, and future technologies such as distance learning, video conferencing, interactive video, etc.
  9. Interpret the schools’ instructional technology program for staff, parents and members of the community.
  10. Provide staff with information about new technology developments in their specific area of responsibility through research and recommend specific hardware and software that will complement and support a diversity of instructional techniques.
  11. Seek educator and student participation in selection and evaluation of technology materials and equipment to support instructional objectives.
  12. Provide staff with district goals relating to technology.
  13. Provide technology assistance to grant writing teams.
  14. Locally manage access to school based, district based and worldwide resources.
  15. Assist in the provision of a well-chosen and up-to-date collection of technology.
  16. Assist in the organization of technology resources for easy accessibility by students and educators which support the school technology program and adhere to copyright and licensing requirements.
  17. Incorporate principles of the district technology plan into the development of the school technology plan.
  18. Develop and provide for on-going evaluation/modification and coordinate implementation of the district’s technology plan.
  19. Participate in staff development training to update skills and such other inservice that may be provided and/or promoted by the district, including technology seminars, conferences and workshops relevant to the school’s technology objectives.
  20. Design, coordinate and provide instructional technology inservice opportunities for school based personnel.
  21. Recommend budget requirements and provide purchase order information for an effective school technology plan.
  22. Contribute to the district’s digital instructional program.
  23. Provide input to the school improvement committee.
  24. Serve as liaison with district technology personnel.
  25. Oversee any support personnel assigned to work with school technology.
  26. Serve as a member of district committees for the development of activities, training materials, and programs to disseminate technology information and promote collaboration among schools.
  27. Must be able to travel and work at all district schools.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs related work as required. (NOTE: The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to that position.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Eleven month position. Salary as established by the board. Employee must have a reliable means of transportation. Employee will be paid mileage at the rate set by the School Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Administrator Instructional Technology
