Job Title:  Bus Aide 

Location:  Support Services

Calendar:  178  Days

Hours:  Full Time

Pay:  $10.29 - 12.24/hr depending on experience

Job Summary:

Assist in the transportation of designated special needs educational students requiring continuous attention and care on school bus.  Recognize and meet the individual needs of the students being transported; and perform related duties as required or assigned.

Skills and Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Ability to maintain accurate records, complete forms, and complete essential paperwork

  • Ability to operate PC computer and use district adopted software

  • Ability to operate various office equipment including copy machine, phone systems and FAX machine

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to work accurately under pressure with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner, under stress and in a proactive manner.

  • Exercise good judgment, diplomacy and empathy when interacting with bus drivers, students and his/her family.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children. 

  • General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops appropriate relationships with staff, students, and parents.

  • Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus; monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation.

  • Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys

  • Assist your driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required.

  • Assist in the safe bus transportation and care of student’s medical, physical and/or behavioral needs as described in his/her Individual Education Program (IEP) plan. 

  • May be required to lift and/or move students as necessary for transportation purposes. 

  • Coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students with your bus driver as required by State Transportation Guidelines.

  • Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.

  • Assist handicapped children on and off the bus; assure student’s parent/guardian  meets the bus before leaving the bus stop.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly bus daily.

  • Operates and communicates with 2-way radio if needed.  

  • Communicate with the supervisor/dispatch any observed changes in the student’s behavior, medical or physical condition.

  •  Receive overall direction from Transportation Supervisor or Dispatch regarding such matters as assigned hours, appropriateness of student discipline measures, procedures for carrying out assigned duties.

  • Receive direction from assigned bus driver regarding safety and emergency procedures to be followed in assisting the driver.

  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned
