Job Title: Bus Aide

Pay: $10.29 - 12.24/hr depending on experience

Assist in the transportation of designated special needs educational students requiring continuous attention and care on school bus. Recognize and meet the individual needs of the students being transported; and perform related duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Requirements
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Ability to maintain accurate records, complete forms, and complete essential paperwork
Ability to operate PC computer and use district adopted software
Ability to operate various office equipment including copy machine, phone systems and FAX machine
Ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to work accurately under pressure with frequent interruptions.
Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner, under stress and in a proactive manner.
Exercise good judgment, diplomacy and empathy when interacting with bus drivers, students and his/her family.
Experience working with children.
General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Essential Job Functions
Develops appropriate relationships with staff, students, and parents.
Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus; monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation.
Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys
Assist your driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required.
Assist in the safe bus transportation and care of student’s medical, physical and/or behavioral needs as described in his/her Individual Education Program (IEP) plan.
May be required to lift and/or move students as necessary for transportation purposes.
Coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students with your bus driver as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
Assist handicapped children on and off the bus; assure student’s parent/guardian meets the bus before leaving the bus stop.
Maintains a clean and orderly bus daily.
Operates and communicates with 2-way radio if needed.
Communicate with the supervisor/dispatch any observed changes in the student’s behavior, medical or physical condition.
Receive overall direction from Transportation Supervisor or Dispatch regarding such matters as assigned hours, appropriateness of student discipline measures, procedures for carrying out assigned duties.
Receive direction from assigned bus driver regarding safety and emergency procedures to be followed in assisting the driver.
