POSITION:  College Counselor 

REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal 
Year Round Position
 

Position Description & Guiding Beliefs: 

The role of the College Counselor at Christ the King is to build and sustain a college-going culture that engages students, parents and higher education partners by implementing college readiness curriculum and providing college guidance that ensures that all students are on track to apply and matriculate to a “best fit” 4-year college. Our College Counseling department is guided by the following core beliefs: 
- All students have the capacity to access and persist through 4-year colleges that match their achievements, needs and ambitions.
- Students’ families are significant agents of influence in the college process and our allies
- Effective college counseling requires that students cast a wide net of applications to the most academically ambitious colleges for which they are qualified.

Essential Functions:
• Provide individualized counseling to students and families on the college going process and financial aid
• Support seniors through the college application process including but not limited to applying to a diversity of colleges that are an academic fit,  writing letters of recommendation, identifying scholarship opportunities and selecting a college.
• Teach a section of Senior College Prep course and collaborate with other College Prep instructors to guide students through the college application and financial aid processes.
• Maintain accurate records in Naviance
• Process and submit transcript requests for college applications, scholarships and pre-collegiate summer programs.
• Teach a portion of Junior College Prep in the Spring to expose students to career and college options and the college application process.
• Help students identify and complete applications for summer pre-collegiate programs
• Coordinate college representative visits to CTK
• In collaboration with the Alumni counselor coordinate college exploration day, career day
• AP Coordinator – coordinate and oversee the AP enrollment process and order and administer AP exams
• Coordinate testing for the suite of SAT exams, collaborate with the School Counselor/SSD coordinator to coordinate exams for students with disabilities and assist students in registering for the SAT
• Coordinate parent meetings and communication educating students and parents about colleges, the admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing
• Develop and manage partnerships with colleges, scholarship organizations and college representatives
• Cultivate a school wide college going culture
• Coordinate Signing Day
• Co-moderate the CTK chapter of the National Honor Society
• Collect, track, analyze and share department data on application submissions, scholarships and testing data
• Collaborate with the Alumni counselor to administer counseling practices that best fit student needs and successes
• Attend grade level team meetings monthly
• Participates in professional development opportunities provided by the Network

Qualifications and Skills:  
Bachelor’s degree  
Master’s degree in School Counseling with state certification preferred or college admission experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
Strong organizational skills  
Familiarity with Naviance & Excel
